Class Levels for Ballet, Jazz & Tap

  • New Student EVALS are scheduled upon registering

  • Existing Student EVALS for advancements are in July and December of each season

Preschool (3yrs olds) Thirty minute class with a limited number of students (6 per teacher).

Level 1 (4yrs-7yrs) Ballet, Tap Students may take any Level 1 class

Level 2 (6yrs & up) Ballet, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble eligible Students may take any Level 2 class.

Level 3 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble eligible Students may take any Level 3 or lower class during the season. At this level, we recommend students take two ballet classes and one jazz class each week in order to progress. Students should expect to be in Level 3 for three years. In most instances, the third year will be a transitional schedule into Level 4, but not always. Students may take any Level 3 or lower class during the season.

Level 3/4 is a transitional year for third year Level 3 students. Their schedule will be tailored to their needs in order to progress to Level 4. Students are encouraged to take as many Level 3 classes or lower as possible to gain strength, flexibility and to work on mechanics and technique. Any assigned/approved Level 4 classes may only be taken if the student is taking all available Level 3 classes. **Students in Level 3/4 and who are 9 years old are eligible for JR Company membership. Students may apply for the JR Company (JR CO) during the season as soon as they turn 9 yrs.

Level 4 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble eligible, JR CO eligible Students may take any Level 4 or lower class during the season. At this level, we recommend students take at least two ballet classes and a jazz class each week in order to progress. Students should expect to be in Level 4 for three years. In most instances, the third year will be a transitional schedule into Level 5, but not always.

Level 4/5 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble eligible, JR CO eligible Students may take any Level 4 or lower class during the season, and may take approved 5 classes assigned by the director. Level 4/5 category is a transitional year for third year Level 4 students. Their schedule will be tailored to their needs in order to progress to Level 5. Students are encouraged to take as many Level 4 classes or lower as possible to gain strength, flexibility and to work on mechanics and technique. Any assigned/approved Level 5 classes may only be taken if the student is taking all available Level 4 classes.

Level 5 Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble and Soloist eligible, JR CO and Company Apprentice eligible Students may take any Level 5 or lower class during the season. At this level, we recommend students take at least two ballet classes (three would be ideal) and a jazz class each week in order to progress. Students should expect to be in Level 5 for three years. In most instances, the third year will be a transitional schedule into Level 6, but not always. **Students in Level 5 and who are 13 years old are eligible for Company membership. Students may apply for the elite Company during the season as soon as they turn 13 yrs old.

Level 5/6 Ballet, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Nutcracker Ensemble and Soloist eligible, JR CO and Company Apprentice eligible Students may take any Level 5 or lower class during the season, and may take approved 6 classes assigned by the director. The level 5/6 category is a transitional year for third year Level 5 students. Their schedule will be tailored to their needs in order to progress to Level 6. Students are encouraged to take as many Level 5 classes or lower as possible to gain strength, flexibility and to work on mechanics and technique. Any assigned/approved Level 6 classes may only be taken if the student is taking all available Level 5 classes.

At this level, we recommend students take two-three ballet classes and two-three jazz class each week in order to progress. Students should expect to be in Level 6 for three to four years
